Copy links from desktop to iphone

I was considering the problem of copying links from my desktop or laptop to my iPhone and came up with a solution. Enter the URL into a QR Code Generator then use RedLaser or ATTScanner to open them on the phone. This works great with links from the Free iTunes Downloads blog and others.

Pictures work again

My WordPress/Gallery integration seems to have broken when Dreamhost simplified my home directory some time ago. After a few path fixes and one post fix, my pictures all showed up again. Enjoy!

My AppleTV setup

I’ve been changing my AV system from a Tivo Series 2 connected to cable to an AppleTV 1.0 and Roku XR.

I’m still using the Tivo to download my favorite shows, but I’ve added Toast Titanium with its Tivo Transfer and auto-transcode/transfer to iTunes for the AppleTV. iTunes is configured to copy the TV shows to the AppleTV’s hard drive.

The only thing I missed about my Tivo was the 30 second commercial skip. But I was experimenting with the remote and found that if I hold the forward button instead of press and release, it would skip forward 30 seconds. If I hold the rewind button, it skips back 8 or 10 seconds. It’s PERFECT.

I finished my dusty pilgrimage and came back with a newfound hope for humanity and our ability to cooperate for a greater good. Joleen and I took hundreds of pictures. The best are here.

I just installed Adobe CS5 and decided to give Contribute a shot. Seems to be a nice way to edit blog posts, with WYSIWYG editing, a non-web interface, and support for multiple blogs. Maybe it will encourage me to post more often… or not.

New sound system

I just got my speakers moved into place, ready to be repaired and amped. The home stereo amp doesn’t really like the abuse of this much load, and the volume keeps dipping in and out. I also need to replace the foam surrounds on the speaker cones. It’s a fun work in progress.

RANT: Prop 8 – How Often Will We Have To Defend Marriage?

Assuming we defeat prop 8, what’s to keep it from showing up on every ballot from here to the end of time?
I can’t stand the idea of creating laws to define basic human rights, and I think it’s deplorable that people would use the legal system to impose their values system on other people who don’t share their viewpoint. But what sort of legal protection can we obtain from these impositions that cost us millions of dollars to defend?
The Declaration of Independence states that we claimed our independence from Britain to guarantee ourselves the “unalienable Rights” of “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness”. Since this Declaration was never codified into Law, it seems that it has become irrelevant in issues of Law. So it’s just a bunch of words scratched onto vellum that have no bearing on today’s reality?

Another hefeweisen bottled, mead is bubbling happily

I picked up a full set of equipment of my own and brewed up a batch of hefeweisen and a holiday mead on the same day. The hef was the same as the first batch, since it went so well the first time. The mead was 3lb of California clover honey, a variety of spices, and a dash of orange juice.

I was able to bottle the hef after 1 and a half weeks in the fermenter. It was highly active in the early stages, blowing the stopper across the room and foam up the walls and onto the ceiling. That was exciting!

The mead is still quite murky, and I’m giving it another few weeks to see how it clarifies before racking it into a secondary fermentation.
